What others in Walter Reed Army Med Center think about our service:

"I needed a needed a new solution for my business. Our DSL line just kept going down and my 15 employees would just stand around waiting for it to come back up. The lack of stability was choking my business, so I decided to go on the hunt for a T1. When I started, I didn't know which carrier was best, or what a competitive price was. Heck, I didn't even know if I could get T1 internet service here in Walter Reed Army Med Center. Luckily, Google directed me to this page and I was able to make contact with a knowledgeable and experienced broadband consultant that narrowed the field down to XO and Broadwing. Now I am the proud owner of a new XO data T1 line, which is stable, reliable, and not much more than I was paying for my old DSL line."

Integrated T1 Progress Report
Tuesday November 18, 2008, 12:06 am ET

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 18 /Patrick Oborn/ -- The digital universe, and the way people connect to it, is changing. Small businesses, in particular, are discovering new high-speed Internet and telecom options that are now squarely within their budgets. Through a myriad of mergers and acquisitions, telecommunication providers have greatly enhanced their integrated T1 products with features that businesses can't live without, all while dropping the price to about half of what they were just two years ago.

"The real benefit I've seen since upgrading to a dynamic integrated T1 from Nuvox Communications is simplicity" commented Johan Sebastian, a small business owner in Clearwater, Florida. "My phones work great, my internet is fast, and the best part is the reliability; I haven't had a single outage since I signed up for the new service over a year ago. Before when we had DSL and POTS lines, every day was an adventure."

According to a recent study conducted by PK Communications Telecom Brokers Inc., the average cost of a POTS (plain old telephone service) line serviced by the Bells (AT&T, Verizon, and Qwest) have changed very little over the 10 year span from 1996, the year the Clinton Administration signed into law the Telecommunications Act, to 2006. The real change in the industry came in the T-carrier class of products, where customers can get up to 1.5 Mbps of bandwidth and 24 digital phone lines all in one package. Some CLECs like XO, TelePacific, Nuvox, One Communications, and even Covad are now offering rates well below the $550/month level, making the change seem like a no-brainer to thousands of customers.

"For years I've played tug-o-war with the phone company who provided voice and data service to my toy manufacturing company" commented Troy Bergfeld of Houston Texas. "They kept trying to sell me services I didn't need, it took them months to finally send me a correct bill, and I wasn't able to recapture bandwidth from my T1 line when nobody was using the phone. Now that has all changed - my Telarus product specialist recommending I give XO Communications a try. Now I use their FLEX T1 product and I pay less and get exactly what I want. I have even add another T1 seamlessly when the time comes for my business to expand."

The only thing that can get in the way of future progress is the law. You know, the one that requires the RBOCs to lease their local loops to CLECs at a reduced rate so that the customer can get a dedicated connection between their office and the CLECs' network. If the FCC decided to lift this requirement, this whole deck of cards could come down in a hurry, and when it does, you can kiss dynamic integrated T1 service for under $500 good bye! Change does not happen quickly in an industry as so heavily regulated as Telecommunications. Recent industry consolidation has provided huge alternatives to the incumbents, who are now under pressure to keep up with new technologies while charging better prices to retain and attract new customer bases.
